Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed has said that soon, every police officer will hold diploma in his field of expertise.
The Police Commissioner made this remark while speaking at a function on Sunday (29 March 2015) evening at Dharubaaruge, to mark the 82nd Anniversary of Maldives Police Service.
He said that to achieve this goal, efforts are ongoing to compile courses as well as send officers abroad for education.
Discussions are also ongoing with the government to improve police welfare, and allowances which have been suspended for some time had been resumed, such as expertise allowance, higher education allowance, and service allowance, said Waheed.
He added that housing allowance had been increased from MVR 1,500 to MVR 2,500.
Waheed said that changes will be made within the police institution to ensure safety and order in the country, and efforts are also ongoing to speed-up the investigation process.
The police will remain undeterred in their efforts to fight crime, but the police force would have to be increased in order to meet councils’ demand of having police presence in every island, said Waheed.
