Verification Room established to step up fake passports detection efforts

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has established a Secondary Verification Room at the Arrival Terminal at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), to identify and prevent fake passports.

Immigration Department Spokesperson Hassan Khaleel told Sun Online that the room, equipped with latest technology verification equipment, will be used from today onwards for investigation to detect forged passports.

Prior to this, there was no separate room for such investigations and fake passport detection was done manually.

Khaleel said that the new systematic computerised approach will help speed up the process.

The CCTV footage of the Arrival Terminal will also be monitored from this room, said Khaleel.
