Shiyan Shafeeq (Shiyalhey), 34, of H. Hedheythundi, has been arrested for plans to set fires in Male’ city.

Sources say that Shiyalhey was arrested at his house under a court order on the same night as President Nasheed’s sentencing. Criminal Court has added 10 days to his detention.

Sun Media has received a copy of his arrest warrant issued last Friday. It says that Shiyalhey and some other people are suspected of planning to set fires in parts of the Male’ city.

Police media official said that two people have been arrested last Friday night for attempting to start fires. But no further details of the suspects were given.

A man was arrest with a court order at the protest on the night of the former president Nasheed got sentenced to 13 years in prison. The man who leads MDP events was also arrest in the same charge.

Shiyalhey was also charged with terrorism for attempting arson attacks during the presidency of Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik. He was charged with assault on security forces, inciting civil unrest, damage to people and property and playing a major role in planning to set fires in the city.
