Murrath, Hana press charges after being denied permission to get married

Ahmed Murrath and Fathimath Hana, who have been convicted of the murder of Ahmed Najeeb, have filed a case to Civil Court against Maldives Correctional Service, after being denied their request to get married.

This has been confirmed to Sun Online by an official of the Civil Court.

Murrath and Hana were found guilty of murder and given the death sentence by Criminal Court in 2012. The sentences were appealed in High Court, and the hearings on the appeal case by Murrath were concluded yesterday.

Confessing to the crime at a hearing at Criminal Court, Murrath said that he tied Najeeb to a chair, tied his arms and legs, and put tape over his mouth at M. Masroora on the night of 1 July 2012. Murrath said that he got upset when Najeeb refused to quiet down and murdered him by stabbing him in the neck with a four-inch knife.
