Male’ Water and Sewerage Company commences the project to build a sewerage system in Sh. Milandhoo.
In the ceremony held in Milandhoo yesterday, the project was inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim.
In an interview to Sun Media last night on the inauguration of the project, the president of Milandhoo Council Abdhulla Faiz Hassan said the a lot of problems are occurring with the water pollution due to lack of a sewerage system to 2300 plus population of Milandhoo. So far, the solution to the sewage problem has been individual tanks in houses that send sewage to the ground.
“This is what the needs immediately; the water is very polluted due to lack of a sewerage system.” Faiz said.
Speaking at yesterday ceremony, the Managing Director of MWSC Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed guaranteed the establishment of the sewerage system as soon as possible with the island’s assistance. The MD said that new employment opportunities would be opened with the establishment of the sewerage system.
According to MWSC, the project would install five sewerage pumps and an outfall system for 13.26 km of pipes that would be installed. The completion of the project is due at the end of the year.
Under the project to install sewerage systems, MWSC has sewerage projects in 16 islands and water projects in four islands ongoing.
