Fourteen women and one man have been arrested for protesting at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
Police said after the arrests that it is prohibited to hold demonstrations at the airport.
The protest, where the group held placards and called for the release of former President Mohamed Nasheed who is in police custody after being charged with terrorism, was broadcast live by some TV stations.
The Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act states that it is prohibited to protest at airports.
Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ali Waheed said on Tuesday night that the party has decided to carry out more activities to call for Nasheed’s release.
