Lawyers: Fingerprints on firearm do not match Nazim

The lawyers of the former Defence Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim have said that the police reports show that the fingerprints found on the pistol confiscated from his home are not a match for the former minister or anyone else from his family.

Speaking at a press conference at VTV today, Nazim’s legal team member Maumoon Hameed said, “We learned three things from this. First, Nazim and his family had nothing to do with the items. Secondly, someone else is involved, as fingerprints were found. Police reports state that fingerprints have been found, and the fact that there was no match, shows involvement by some other people.”

He also said that police were not making any attempts to find who the fingerprints belong to.

Maumoon noted that police were also hiding the identities of the people providing statements regarding Nazim’s case, which makes it impossible for the defendant to judge the credibility of the statements.

He criticised Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin, and said that according to the Constitution and laws it is the responsibility of the Prosecutor General to uphold the rights of persons who are prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Nazim’s wife Afaaf Abdul Majeed has pressed charges against the Prosecutor General for pressing unfounded charges against her.

The charge against Nazim was changed at the last hearing, from possession of firearms, to import and possession of firearms.
