The motion on parliament approval for Defence Minister Moosa Ali Jaleel has been forwarded to the Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government, for assessment.
Earlier, President Abdulla Yameen, in a letter addressed to Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh, stated that Moosa Ali Jaleel had been appointed as Minister of Defence as per Article 129 (d) of the Constitution, and requested the parliament to assess and make a decision regarding approval for this appointment.
Moosa Ali Jaleel replaced Mohamed Nazim as Defence Minister on 20 January 2015.
Also at today’s parliament sitting, the President’s nomination for the post of Ambassador to Pakistan, Ahmed Saleem, was sent to the Parliament Committee on National Security for assessment; and the President’s nomination for the post of Elections Commission Member, Ahmed Akram, was sent to the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions for assessment.
