PPM welcomes MDP-JP talks with government

PPM has welcomed the MDP-JP joint commission’s decision to meet President Abdulla Yameen with the demands made in the protest rally last Friday.

Speaking at the press conference tonight at the PPM office, Abduraheem said that PPM welcomes the decision if the MDP-JP committee is ready for talks with the government. But the demands being made by them have no basis.

“How can the president release the people in jail? This is what they have demanded. Even the government has said that this has no basis. President Yameen is no someone who does things like President Nasheed. But this government welcomes discussion.” Abduraheem said.

Abduraheem says there will be no obstructions to the president’s speech tomorrow at the opening ceremony of the parliament.

He said President Yameen would deliver the speech with “ease.”

“They say there’re out to protect the constitution. If so, article 84 of the constitution demands the president’s speech when opening the parliament every year. If so, the people out to protect the constitution would not obstruct the president’s duty as the constitution dictates.” Abduraheem said.

Abduraheem said if there is obstruction to the president’s speech, the opposition claims does not make sense.

Deputy leader of the MDP parliamentary group and the MP for Addu-Meedhoo constituents, Rozaina Adam said tonight that it won’t be “easy” for the president to make his speech.

In the PPM event tonight, 70 Maldivians living in Trivandrum signed to PPM. The signed forms were delivered to the PPM office by the PPM envoy to India Ali Adam (Alibe).

PPM says that 275 Maldivians in Trivandrum has joined PPM.
