Regional Airports has informed that the government has taken over the management of Fuvahmulah Regional Airport.
Director of Regional Airports Authority Sami Ageel told Sun Online that the change officially came into effect today, and that airport operations will continue as per normal, without any disruption.
Until now, Fuvahmulah Airport was managed by State Trading Organisation (STO).
“Work is ongoing to transfer the airport staff from STO to civil service,” said Ageel.
STO has said that the cost of the construction of the airport was MVR 170 million, while operational expenses reach MVR 1 million per year.
Ageel said that efforts would be made to develop the airport.
The government’s takeover follows a request in this regard by STO, which was accepted by President Abdulla Yameen.
