Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has denied the speculations spreading in social media about using deadly force against the citizens.
The MNDF press release issued last night says that such rumors are being spread to diminish the trust between the people and the army.
Similar rumors spread last Sunday with the arrest of the former president Mohamed Nasheed, claiming that the army was on the streets with arms. These claims were denied as well.
“The army was and always will be doing their general duty,” said the MNDF Information Officer major Adnaan Mohamed.
Rumors are being spread on social media saying that the army might use deadly force in the ongoing protests in Male’.
