Four judges have been appointed to the Civil Court, and one judge has been appointed to the Criminal Court.
Letters of appointment were presented to the new judges by Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, at a ceremony at Supreme Court on Wednesday evening.
The appointees to the Civil Court were former Legal Officer for Jumhooree Party Mohamed Haleem, former Legal Officer for the Civil Service Commission Reehussaba Abdul Nasir, lawyer representing the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Hassan Faheem Ibrahim, and Ali Abdulla.
Ahmed Rasheed, a former member of the JSC, was appointed as a judge to the Criminal Court.
The oath for all five judges was administered by High Court judge Ali Sameer.
Members of the JSC including President Ali Hameed Mohamed and Vice President Mohamed Faisal were in attendance at the ceremony, along with judges from the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor General Muhuthaz Muhusin.
