Laamu atoll Dhanbidhoo harbor project has been launched today.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muiz officially launched the project today at an event held in the island.
Due to severe damage to the previous harbor, the renewal project was tasked to Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC) last February. The project was delayed so long because some of the islanders were not happy with the architecture of the harbor at the time. The minster spoke with Sun and confirmed that the issues have now been resolved.
The minister said that now the issues have been resolved, there are changes in the size and the location of the harbor.
This has resulted in changes in the price as well, and the price of the new harbor is MVR 34 million, while when the project was first undertaken by MTCC, it was MVR 29.7 million.
The new harbor with a length of 450 ft and width of 250 ft is scheduled to be completed in 290 days, says the minister.
