Former President and President of opposition party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has said that no one is safe in the Maldives, if people like former Minister of Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim are arrested.
Nasheed made this remark on Twitter this morning.
“Nazim is a politician with military experience. If such a person can be arrested in this manner, no party/person is safe.”
Nazim akee military thajribage siyaasee beyfulheh. Efadha beyfulhun migothah hayyaru kurevenee nama evves Party/meehakah salaamatheh neiy.

Nazim was arrested last month on suspicion of possession of weapons, after police found among other items a pistol during a raid of his apartment.
MDP’s protest against Nazim’s arrest has also been joined by Jumhooree Party (JP), which was initially included in the coalition government formed by President Abdulla Yameen.
Speaking at a recent rally organised by MDP and JP ‘to defend the constitution’, Nasheed praised Nazim and said it was unlikely that the weapon police claim to have found in Nazim’s home belonged to him.
Nasheed has described Nazim’s arrest as a case of enforced disappearance of opposing politicians by the present government.
Nazim was a leading figure in the movements that led to the downfall of Nasheed’s government in 2012.
In addition to Nasheed, JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim has also called on the government and the police to release Nazim.
