Supreme Court has determined the regions that will come under the purview of two High Court branches to be established in northern and southern Maldives.
This was announced in a circular by the court on Thursday.
The High Court branch in the north will cover Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu, Raa, and Baa atolls; while the branch in the south will over Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Gnaviyani, and Addu atolls.
The High Court in Malé will cover Malé, Vilimalé, Hulhumalé; and Lhaviyani, Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, and Laamu atolls.
According to an amendment to the Judicature Act, appeal cases shall be filed to the High Court branch in the respective region.
