Police have denied claims by former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim’s legal team, that the weapons found in Nazim’s home had been planted by police.
In a statement issued on Wednesday night, police also denied the claim by Nazim’s legal team in court that the investigation regarding the accusations against Nazim had been completed, and said that the investigation, including the forensic process, is ongoing.
Police said that the claim that the police provided false information to the court to obtain the court order, is also untrue; and asserted that the information provided to the court to seek the court order, were based on evidence and true information collected during the investigation process.
According to the statement, Nazim was taken to court for a remand-period hearing as advised by the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office. This written advice by the PG Office was presented to the court, and the document was shown to Nazim’s legal team by the court, said police.
The statement further explained that it was not possible to share all information related to an investigation, and assured that all information related to the accusations against Nazim that the police were able to share at this stage, have been shared with Nazim’s legal team.
Police said that they have not acted in violation of any procedures, laws, or regulations in their investigation of the case related to Nazim.
