Environment Minister: Demand for energy is high, resources to generate energy is less

Environment Minister Toriq Ibrahim has on Monday said that demand for energy is increased by eight percent every year and efforts must be made to increase production of energy.

Addressing in the event held to inaugurate photo exhibition on environmental changes named as “Support for Climate Neutrality Strategy of the Maldives”, Minister Toriq said that while demand for energy is being increased day by day, it is a threat to have limited amount of resources to generate energy.

Minister Toriq requested to put effort to maintain usage of energy at a certain level and stressed on the importance of producing renewable energy.

The photo exhibition inaugurated on Monday at National Art Gallery will be opened until Wednesday of this week. Photo exhibition is organized by Environment Ministry in cooperation with GIZ, a German company, German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Building and Nuclear Safety.

Chief Guest of the event, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham, while addressing said that efforts have to be made to reduce environmental degradation and Maldives need to focus on using renewable energy sources.
