Surveys begin in five islands for water and sewerage system projects

Surveys are under way in five islands for the establishment of water and sewerage systems, funded by the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID).

Ministry of Environment and Energy said that under this project, sewerage systems would be established in Noonu Velidhoo, Baa Thulhaadhoo, Raa Hulhudhuffaaru, Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi, and Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhdhoo; and water systems would be established in all the above islands excluding Gadhdhoo.

The ministry said that an agreement was signed with Al Habshi Consultants on 14 January 2015 for the design and supervision consultancy work related to this project.

The survey has been completed in Thulhaadhoo, and it will begin in Kolamaafushi and Gadhdhoo this week, and in Velidhoo and Hulhudhuffaaru late next week.

The total cost of this project is estimated at $20 million.
