The High Court has informed former President Mohamed Nasheed that it was not possible to postpone the hearing of the case filed by him, against the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Nasheed has filed a case claiming that the bench of judges constituted by JSC to preside over the case regarding the illegal arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed, was unconstitutional.
Nasheed’s legal team requested to postpone the hearing citing pending research, and asked to be allowed more time prior to making arguments to further defend the case at this stage of the trial.
Sun Online has learned that High Court has sent a reply to a letter from Hassan Latheef, a member of Nasheed’s legal team, stating that it was not possible to postpone the hearing. No details were available at the time of publication.
Hassan Latheef claimed in his letter addressed to High Court that chances of a fair verdict have diminished due to postponed hearings, despite repeated requests by Nasheed from the court to expedite the case.
The last hearing on this case was held on 1 April 2013, and the next hearing has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 28 January 2015.
