Umar Naseer appointed to LGA

President Abdulla Yameen has appointed Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer as a member of the Local Government Authority (LGA).

This comes after Mohamed Nazim was removed from his post of Minister of Defence yesterday.

The Decentralisation Act states that the Board of LGA must have a minister appointed by the President in order to make the institution accountable to the Parliament, as prescribed in Article 140 of the Constitution.

Nazim was the President of LGA until his dismissal as a minister yesterday.
