Fazul appointed Managing Director of MWSC

Ibrahim Fazul has been appointed as the Managing Director of Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

Spokesperson for the President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Online that the decision to appoint Fazul to this post was passed by the Privatisation Board yesterday.

President Abdulla Yameen nominated Ibrahim Fazul as the new Managing Director of MWSC and sent his name to the Privatisation Board on 8 January.

Until then, he held a senior administrative post at the Parliament Secretariat.

Fazul has also worked as a senior official of People’s Alliance (PA), a political party co-founded by President Yameen several years ago.

This change comes after Ahmed Umar was dismissed from his post of Managing Director of MWSC on 11 January 2015. Umar was appointed to this post, a slot given to Jumhooree Party (JP), by the current government. He was dismissed after the government initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire at MWSC in December 2014, which resulted in water being cut off in Malé for a week.
