The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to install CCTV cameras at 54 locations in Hulhumalé, to support the efforts by the police to maintain safety in the island.
Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed told Sun Online that the lack of CCTV cameras pose serious challenges for the police in their investigations, and that this project would help them carry out their duties more efficiently.
A project funded by HDC is under way to install cameras at 54 locations, said Suhail, and cameras would be installed at more locations later.
He added that the locations are determined by the police, and priority would be given to populated areas.
Crime is expected to go down following the installation of the cameras, said Suhail.
