Dhiraagu has said that customers of its internet service will be adequately compensated for the difficulties faced due to the damage caused to Dhiraagu’s submarine cable.
Dhiraagu Chief Executive Ismail Rasheed said at a press conference held at Traders Hotel today that work is underway to understand the inconveniences faced by customers due to the disruption in internet service. Customers will be accorded the most adequate compensation for their difficulties.
“We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience. We are working on alternative ways to resolve the problem. The capacity has already been increased compared to the first day,” Ismail Rasheed said.
He said that satellite circuit is being used to solve the problem, and other methods are being used to increase capacity.
Dhiraagu CO Ismail Shafeeu said that internet service will be restored as per normal before the end of the month. The designated vessel will reach the location on Tuesday and commence work to repair the damaged cable.
Dhiraagu believes that the 1000km-long cable lying in the sea at a depth of 40m was damaged by a ship anchor.
Dhiraagu Director Network Umair Shafiu said that it is likely that the fibre inside the cable is damaged. The accident occurred about 26km off Sri Lanka.
Internet service was disrupted at around 21:30 last Wednesday night. It was later restored but at a low speed, and foreign websites were inaccessible.
