Minister Adeeb: Maldives takes feasible loans

Projects that are carried out by China in Maldives are not financed by the government, but they are feasible loans, said tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb.

Minister Adeeb said that GDP of Maldives would be increased due to the projects carried out by China in Maldives.

“The projects carried out in corporation with China would not be financed by the government” said Minister Adeeb.

By giving example, Minister said that while China works on the development of second runway at the airport, the loan can be paid from the airport income as airport itself is a profit making authority. Minister Adeeb added that majority of the bridge project and 14 km road to be developed at Laamu Fonadhoo are free aids from China.

Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), Minister at President’s Office said that Maldives has got a number of technical opportunities from China and when discussed with investment banks, they have shown interest to come to Maldives.
