Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced efforts to install gravity systems at flood-prone areas in Male’, under a project aimed at solving the problem of flooding in the city.
The two gravity systems will be located near Ghiyassuddin School, on Ameenee Magu.
Project Supervisor Mohamed Zareer told Sun Online that the two systems would help remove the water that end up in the drains on Ameenee Magu.
He said that the systems would contribute significantly to solving the problem of flooding, and that a similar system has also been placed near Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi, on Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
Zareer said that the work began four days ago, and is expected to be completed in a week.
The government awarded a project worth MVR 4.3 million to MWSC last month, to solve the problem of flooding in Male’.
Managing Director of MWSC Ahmed Umar said that the project, under which additional pumps and pipes would be installed as required, would be completed in about three months.
Flooding caused by rain is a serious problem in Male’. Slight rain can leave pools of water on Ameenee Magu, near Finance Ministry; as well as on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, near West Park.
