Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council has said that efforts were ongoing to provide clean water to Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaranfaru after the island’s water has become contaminated with sewage due to the floods caused by heavy rain in Northern Maldives.
Adam Naseer, President of the Atoll Council has on Sunday said that the council has communicated with Disaster Management Center regarding the problem faced to Nolhivanfaru. In that regard, clean water required for the island have been arranged from MWSC Kulhudhuffushi branch, said Adam Naseer.
“We have got 100 tons of water from Disaster Management Center. Since capacity of Nolhivaranfaru is 20,000 liters of water, we are now trying to find a way to bring water from Kulhudhuffushi” said the President of Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council.
He said that water could be brought to Nolhivaranfaru from Kulhudhuffushi some time on Sunday. He noted that water would be supplied until the condition of water in the island is improved.
People of Nolhivaranfaru has raised their voices by gathering near Island Council to get a permanent solution for the matter.
Adam Naseer stated that while the island has been flooded and water has been contaminated by overflowing of junctions, the council has started communicating with the required agencies to solve the issues.
Apart from this, Adam Naseer added that the council would communicate on Monday with Environment Ministry to establish a sewerage system in Nolhivaranfaru.
