New company obtains license to operate cable TV

A new company has been approved to operate cable TV throughout Maldives.

Maldives Broadcasting Commission has on Wednesday issued license to Play Cast Maldives.

By giving information to media on Wednesday, Managing Director of Play Cast Maldives Mohamed Fayaz (JB) said that competition of cable TV was needed in Maldives and that, Play Cast wants to accommodate latest technology in providing cable TV service in Maldives at the cheapest price. In that regard, he added that Play Cast was trying to start providing service within next two months and aims to widen the service across the country within a year.

JB said that they were putting effort to provide local channels free of cost.

He stated that while their plan was to provide service through Wi-Fi and cable, new channels in addition to currently available local channels would be included.

“We are trying to start the service with 60 channels. Our goal is 150 channels. Among those, there will be special channels for foreigners living in Maldives. Recent channels will also be included” said JB.
