Agreement made for Police to investigate criminal offences noted in audit reports

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between Police and Audit office, to assign to the Police the responsibility to investigate criminal offences noted in audit reports.

The MOU was signed by Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz and Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim at a ceremony held this morning at Iskandar koshi.

The MOU stipulates the presentation of information, assistance in training programs, presentation of audit reports, and presentation of criminal offences in audit reports to Police.

Auditor General Niyaz said after the signing ceremony that this decision was made as the Police would be the most capable institution to investigate the issues noted in audit reports.

“I am confident that the agreement will speed up the process of getting back the money that rightfully belongs to the state,” Niyaz said.

Commissioner Riyaz said that the Police will use all possible means to investigate such cases and file them to court.

“We will do everything possible to speed up investigations to arrest and punish the people responsible,” Riyaz said.
