State of Palestine should be granted full membership of the United Nations: President Waheed

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has stated that the Maldives fully supports granting the State of Palestine membership of the United Nations.

The President made the statement at the state luncheon held at Kurumba Maldives in honour of Mahmoud Abbas, the visiting President of Palestine.

The President said that the Maldives will always use its presence in international organisations to campaign for the cause of Palestine.

“No international issue draws the same level of intensity and interest in the Maldives as the question of Palestine,” the President said.

President Abbas thanked the Maldivian government and people for the support to Palestine in their struggle to establish an independent State. He noted that his visit would strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Former President Gayoom, cabinet ministers, Speaker of Parliament, members of parliament, several leaders of political parties, and foreign ambassadors were present at the luncheon.
