City Council has filed a case claiming that the letters sent by Housing Ministry to City Council are not legitimate.
Member of Male’ City Council Ibrahim Shujau said that the case filed is not regarding transfer of Dharubaaruge back to City Council, but regarding the letters sent by Housing Ministry:
“We have not filed any case to transfer Dharubaaruge back to City Council. Our claim is that we do not believe that the letters sent by the Minister and the orders issued by him are legitimate.”
He said that their legal team is working on filing three additional cases as well. He did not indicate what they were about.
A Civil Court official confirmed that one case had been filed by City Council, but did not disclose any details.
Shujau said that discussions have been held with Civil Service Commission (CSC) regarding the transfer of 16 employees from City Council to Housing Ministry. CSC had agreed that this was not handled in the best manner.
“Latheef and Fahmy agreed that the transfer was not handled well,” Shujau said, referring to members of CSC.
President of CSC Mohamed Fahmy Hassan said today that under a regulation set up by the former administration relating to decentralization of institutions, Ministries are given the authority to reclaim institutions after handing them over to Councils. He indicated that the relevant documents show that Dharubaaruge has been transferred back to Housing Ministry – which means that the 16 employees of Dharubaaruge belong to Housing Ministry.
He also noted that if the court rules that Dharubaaruge belongs to City Council, the employees will be immediately transferred to City Council.
