The Airports Ferry Operators Association has decided to make the ferry between Male’ and the airport, Hulhule’, free for people with disabilities.
Secretary General of the Airports Ferry Operators Association Ibrahim Mohamed told Sun Online that this decision would come into effect tonight at midnight.
“People with disabilities can show their card at the ticket station and get tickets for free,” said Ibrahim.
He said that this service will continue as long as the ferry is operated by the Airports Ferry Operators Association.
Ahmed Hishan, who advocated the introduction of free ferry rides for people with disabilities, said that the purpose of this service was to help people with disabilities, and similar efforts would be made to make other ferry services free for them as well.
Hishan received the National Award in the area of Social Services (Humanitarian Service) this year.
Hishan has also introduced a scheme to give discounts to people shopping with persons with disabilities. Business operators have been invited to join the scheme which will come into effect on 3 December 2014.
