Four individuals have applied for the post of Auditor General following the recent amendment to the Audit Act.
The deadline for submitting applications was Monday, 10 November 2014.
Spokesperson for the President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun Online, “Four people have applied for the post of Auditor General, all men. The applications are under process, so it is not possible to provide details at this stage.”
Incumbent Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim is not among the four individuals who applied for the post.
The amendment to the Audit Act stated that the President should nominate an individual for the post of Auditor General and send the name to the parliament for approval, within 30 days from the day the bill is ratified.
A member of the public has filed a case to the Supreme Court, claiming that the amendment to the Audit Act is void.
