The government has decided to submit a bill to the parliament on Civil Judgement Enforcement.
At a press conference by the Ministry of Law and Gender on Monday, Attorney General Mohamed Anil said that the major challenges faced by the civil justice system include delays in prosecution and problems in the enforcement of judgements.
He said that the new bill was aimed at finding solutions to these issues.
“There is an important bill on civil justice system. The backbone of the civil justice system would be its procedure, or the Civil Procedure Code. This bill would be one of our main focuses next year. Along with this, we will try to submit the Judgement Enforcement Bill as well,” said Anil.
He added that the government does not want to import laws from other countries, rather, it will hold discussions with relevant groups to identify problem areas in the Maldives, to shape the laws.
