Attorney General Mohamed Anil has said that efforts are ongoing to revise the law on the protection of the rights of children, to suit the modern society.
At a press conference at the Ministry of Law and Gender yesterday, Anil said that the current law on the protection of children’s rights was put together and enforced in 1991.
He said that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to revise the law.
“The law was put together a long time ago, before the new constitution. Since then the society has gone through major changes. The law needs revision, for it to suit the current situation,” said Anil.
He added that the law also needs to be revised to fulfil the requirements of the protocols of the conventions on the protection of the rights of children.
“Our target is to complete the revision by the end of the year,” said Anil.
