Agreement signed with STO regarding supply of material for Maafushi wall construction

Maldives Correctional Service has signed an agreement with State Trading Organisation (STO), regarding the provision of the material required to construct the 20-ft high wall around Maafushi Prison.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at STO Head Office today, by Managing Director of STO Adam Azim, and Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham.

Husham said that under the agreement, STO would provide the construction material required for this project, worth MVR 4.2 million.

He said that the project would cost MVR 7 million in total, and funding has been arranged.

“We want this project to be carried out by the government, without any outsourcing,” said Husham.

The wall construction, to be carried out by inmates, is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Azim assured that STO would provide support and assistance for the project.

The purpose of the 20-ft, 1.4-km wall is to improve security at Maafushi Prison.
