Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Saheem Ali Saeed said that he expects to start construction of ten mosques funded by the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud in January 2015.
In a news conference held on Saturday, Minister Shaheem said that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia has already assigned $1.2 million, which was one third of the project, to Islamic Ministry.
With the seven mosques aided by the government of Saudi Arabia and those funded by the government of Maldives, Islamic Ministry monitored construction of a total of 17 mosques this year, said Minister. He added that MVR 9.8 million have been spent on renovation of 334 mosques in 137 islands for the month of Ramadan in 2014.
Minister noted that construction of mosque that is financed from “Miskiy Fund” at Thaa Gaadhiffushi would be completed by the end of this month and MVR 3,104,551.25 have been spent on this project.
Minister also noted that MVR 1.1 million have been spent from “Miskiy Fund” for renovation of mosques in 11 islands this year.
Regarding renovation of Islamic Center, Minister said that it has been decided to carry out all the renovation with fund from Khalifa Foundation of UAE and all the official discussions regarding the matter were being in progress.
