Spokesperson for the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali, has told Sun Online that it has not yet been decided when applications would be invited for the post of Auditor General.
Muaz did not provide any details on the issue.
Assistant Auditor General Mohamed Hussain said that the Auditor General’s Office has not been informed by any government institution yet, that Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim has been dismissed from his post.
An Amendment Bill to the Audit Act ratified by President Abdulla Yameen on Thursday stated that the President should nominate an individual for the post of Auditor General and send the name to the parliament for approval, within thirty days from the day the bill is ratified.
Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, who submitted the Amendment Bill to the parliament, said that the post of Auditor General was vacant following the ratification of the bill by the President.
It has not been possible to confirm at the time of publication if the government has officially informed the Auditor General’s Office of the dismissal of Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim. Niyaz Ibrahim did not, however, attend work today.
