Espanyol beats Valencia 4-0 in Spanish league

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Espanyol scored twice in each half to beat Valencia 4-0 in the Spanish league on Sunday and maintain its pursuit of a Europa League spot.

Sergio Garcia's crafty dribbling along the goal line led to him picking out Cristian Gomez for the 26th-minute opening goal, with Joan Verdu unleashing a shot into the top corner four minutes later to make it 2-0.

Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita lost the ball inside his area, allowing Garcia to find substitute Alvaro Vazquez to score in the 57th.

Kalu Uche capped the victory by scoring with 10 minutes left.

Espanyol climbed to within one point of sixth-place Osasuna, which is in the last Europa League spot. Malaga can overtake third-place Valencia with a victory against Real Sociedad later Sunday.
