Vandals cut down all areca nut trees on Majeedee Magu

All areca nut trees on Majeedee Magu have been cut down last night, in an attack by vandals.

The police spokesperson told Sun Online that the incident was reported to police late last night, and the case is under investigation.

Eyewitnesses say that the act was carried out by a group of masked men with machetes.

The fallen trees have been removed from the road by Male’ City Council.

Some areca nut trees were also cut down on Majeedee Magu on Wednesday night.

A hundred thousand areca nut trees have been gifted to Maldives by the government of India. The trees on Majeedee Magu that have been cut down, were planted in 2011. Areca nut trees have been cut down before as well, during times of political turmoil.
