I find this results difficult to accept, says Mustafa

Mohamed Mustafa, who contested for Thimarafushi Constituency seat in Parliament, in the by-election held today, has said that he could not accept the results of the by-election.

Mustafa, who represented the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) of former President Mohamed Nasheed, said that there were problems with the results of Guraidhoo, one of the islands in the Constituency.

Mustafa said that he could not believe that there might be 800 voters in Guraidhoo Constituency. “The island could not have such a number of eligible voters”, said Mustafa. He also criticized the police arresting the representative of candidate Abdul Rasheed Abdullah who ran for the seat as an independent candidate, at Guraidhoo ballot box.

Ahmed Shareef from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) led by former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom won the election, by beating Mustafa by 1755 votes to 1327 votes.
