Public warned over escaped prisoners

Maldives Police Service has warned the public after two dangerous convicts, Ibrahim Shahum Adam, 23, G. Cosy, Male’, and Fariyash Ahmed, 26, Javaahiruvaadhee, Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo, escaped from Maafushi prison.

Police said that search efforts by the police and Maldives Correctional Service were launched immediately after the escape was identified at around 8:30 p.m. on 17 October 2014.

Assistance has also been sought from the Coast Guard of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for this search operation, said the police.

Ibrahim Shahum Adam and Fariyash Ahmed were serving 25-year sentences after being convicted of terrorism and murder respectively.

Police have urged anyone with any information on these convicts to step forward and contact the police hotline on 3322111, or the Serious and Organised Crime Department on 9911099.

Police thanked the public for their cooperation in similar cases in the past, and reminded that action will be taken against anyone who withholds information regarding the two escaped prisoners.
