The Principals Association of the Maldives has called for a ‘mega investment’ in teachers.
In a statement issued today on the occasion of Teachers’ Day 2014, the association called on all relevant authorities to make a mega investment in teachers by increasing the allocation for teachers in the state budgets for 2015 and the coming years, as a way of implementing this year’s Teachers’ Day theme ‘Invest in the future – Invest in Teachers’.
The association also urged authorities to ensure career progress and improved working conditions for teachers, and to provide safe work environments for teachers where they can carry out their duties with professionalism. The association said that this also includes providing better training programs to improve teachers’ skills.
These efforts should be based on inclusive education, and priority must be given to employing qualified teachers and building a strong and robust team, the Principals Association said in the statement.
