New generator confirmed for Nellaidhoo: FENAKA

FENAKA said that it has been decided to send a new generator to Haa Dhaalu Nellaidhoo.

In a press release today, it was stated that out of the 77 generators they have brought, a generator would be sent to Nellaidhoo. They also stated that they have started sending those generators to the intended islands, however, they might not be sent to some islands as scheduled, due to the bad weather. Nevertheless, they specified that they would try to send generators and start providing electricity to islands in a near future.

“There is no electricity in Nellaidhoo at present. It has been decided to send one of these 77 generators to Nellaidhoo. And we are trying to send the generator and provide electricity to Nellaidhoo within a short period of time,” stated in the press release.

Because they have not got any solution to the problem of electricity, people of Nellaidhoo have started a protest. Ibrahim Ali, Vice President of Nellaidhoo Council said to Sun that electricity in Nellaidhoo is being disconnected every now and then from last Ramazaan onwards. He said that the people started the protest because there was no electricity in the island from Sunday 3 a.m. till morning. He said that at present they have a generator of only 80 kilo watts for a population of 1200 people, and electricity is disconnected due to overload.
