Parliament to reconvene on 13 October

The first sitting of the third session of the parliament will be held on 13 October, the Parliament Secretariat announced today.

The parliament went into recess after the second session on 28 August.

The Parliament Secretariat said that 58 out of 61 motions, and 26 out of 28 bills were finalised by the end of the second session.

During the first session, the parliament passed several important bills, including the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Bill proposed by the government.

It also approved several appointments to independent institutions, including Abdul Azeem Jamal Abu Bakr as the Information Commissioner, Mumthaz Fahmy as the Prosecutor General, Abdul Hannaan Ahmed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as the representative of the public, Ibrahim Riza as a member of the JSC as the representative of the parliament, and Fathimath Sareera Ali Shareef as a member of the Police Integrity Commission (PIC).
