Case of alcohol found in former President

Police have said that the investigation into the alcohol found in former President’s residence on 7 February 2012 is complete, and will be sent to Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office today.

Deputy Head Sub-inspector of Drug Enforcement Department Ismail Fareed said that unless they are faced with a ‘technical’ problem, the case will be submitted to PG Office today.

Police said that the investigation took longer than expected because steps had to be taken to ensure the quality standard of this investigation, and also due to the large number of cases currently under investigation.

Some of the bottles of alcohol found at Muleeaage were packed in cases with Maldivian emblem on them, while some others were addressed to Nasheed as gifts from foreign counterparts.

Police said that the bottles were smuggled into Muleeaage in A4-sized envelopes, which had MNDF Special Protection Group Security Checked stamps on them.

Following these findings, Former President Nasheed retorted that he does not drink alcohol, and that there can be no such thing at Muleeaage.
