Dr Waheed departs to US to attend UN General Assembly

Former president, Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik left this morning to the US as a special envoy of the President, to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr. Waheed tweeted today, “Today I am leaving for New York as Special Representative of President Yamin to Head the Maldives Delegation to the UN General Assembly.”

The spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun today that on 30th of this month, former president, Dr. Waheed will speak at the UN General Assembly on behalf of the president. In his speech, he will highlight general issues related to the Maldives, and share the president’s views on those issues.

President Yameen is unable to attend the General Assembly as he will depart for pilgrimage accompanied by the First Lady at the end of this month.

Dr. Waheed is accompanied to the General Assembly by his wife, Ilham Hussain and MP for Galolhu South constituency, Ahmed Mahloof.
