The members of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) have been summoned to the Supreme Court.
A spokesperson for the commission said that they have received a notice, to attend the Supreme Court at 1:45 p.m. today.
He said that since all its members are not in the country, the meeting has been postponed to 22 September.
He added that it is not clear if they are being summoned for a meeting or for a hearing.
Sun Online is informed that President of HRCM Mariyam Azra is out of the country on an official visit, and its Member Ahmed Abdul Kareem is on vacation.
This comes shortly after HRCM stated in its recent Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report, submitted to the UN Human Rights Commission, that the judicial system of the country is controlled and influenced by the Supreme Court, weakening the judicial powers vested in other superior and lower courts.
