Man found dead in well in Ihavandhoo

Abdulla Abu Bakr, 70, of Gulzaaruge, Haa-Alifu Ihavandhoo, who went missing last night, has been found dead this morning.

Police said that he was found at 6:18 a.m. in a well in an uninhabited house in the island.

“His body has been taken to the health centre for investigation,” said the police spokesperson.

He added that investigation thus far has not revealed any external injuries.

President of the Ihavandhoo Council Mohamed Asif told Sun Online that Abdulla Abu Bakr disappeared yesterday evening after he left the house for a walk.

“We have been informed that he takes walks as a form of exercise every day. Yesterday he went missing and people started searching. I haven’t been told that he was particularly ill lately,” said Asif.

He said that the uninhabited house in which Abdulla Abu Bakr was found is under construction, and quite far from where he lives. He added that the victim has no links to that house and why he would go there, is unclear.

The well in which he was found is at ground level and uncovered, said Asif.
