MIRA publishes names of defaulting taxpayers

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published the names of taxpayers who have not filed their Goods and Service Tax (GST) statements, and failed to pay GST before the deadline for the second quarter of 2014.

The list contains names of 59 taxpayers from the tourism sector and 262 taxpayers from other sectors, for the period between 1 April and 30 June 2014.

MIRA said that before publishing the names, the taxpayers were contacted several times and informed of the penalties they might face following failure to pay GST.

MIRA also warned that the names will be announced, before the list was published today.
