The Maldives has proposed to establish sub-commissions on Education and Health with Sri Lanka, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon said yesterday.
Dhunya announced this while speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday evening, upon her return from Colombo after attending a meeting of the Maldives-Sri Lanka Joint Commission.
She said that discussions were held regarding obtaining doctors and teachers, as well as on several other areas to strengthen and expand public services in the Maldives.
She highlighted that a large number of Maldivians travel to Sri Lanka for medical treatment, and said that a request was made regarding facilitating lower prices for Maldivian patients.
The Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister assured that he would look into the matter and respond to this request soon, said Dhunya.
At the Joint Commission Session, Dhunya was accompanied by Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham and Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee, and senior officials of various government agencies.
